Austria analyzes new confinement for those not vaccinated against Covid-19

Despite the increase in infections in the country, the situation in intensive care is, for the moment, stable: 220 beds occupied compared to a limit of 600 set by the Austrian Government to declare its emergency plan, reports the public channel ORF .

The country is currently in “phase one” and, in the words of Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein, “we would be looking very far into the future”, but the weekly incidence of cases is 230 per 100,000 inhabitants, more than double than that of its neighbor Germany.

Earlier in the week, the government announced that most employees in Austria will have to prove that they were vaccinated, tested negative for the virus or recovered from Covid-19 as of November 1 in order to work.

The new phased plan now stipulates that only PCR tests will be considered valid once 400 intensive care beds are occupied, the Europa Press news agency said.

About 62% of the population has the complete vaccination schedule, but the momentum of the campaign stalled in recent days.

One reason for this is the message from the right-wing Freedom Party, one of the largest in the country, which fueled skepticism about inoculants against the virus.

Last month, regional elections for the Upper Austrian legislative body yielded a surprising result: the newly formed anti-vaccination party MFG (People, Freedom, Rights) achieved 6%, surpassing the 4% threshold to enter Parliament. in his first participation.
