The French Navy seized almost 5 tons of cocaine off the coast of Africa. The historical record is 23 tons, which left Paraguay and passed through Argentina.
The French navy destroyed on Wednesday 4.74 tons of cocaine seized aboard a cargo ship “off the African coast,” authorities announced Friday. On the streets, it would be worth close to $170 million.
The seizure occurred “north of the equator” in international waters on a cargo ship flagged by Saint Kitts and Nevis, with the agreement of the Caribbean country, the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture said in a statement.
The French patrol boat “Premier-maître L’Her” has been participating since January in the Corymbe operation to guarantee maritime security and fight against illegal activities in the Gulf of Guinea, according to the statement.
The largest shipment of cocaine in history
The biggest hit of this type was 23 tons of cocaine that were seized in February 2021, in a shipment that traveled to Europe after leaving Paraguay and passing through Argentina.
