The Mühlviertler Wellnesshotel Guglwald optimally prepared its participants for the Linz marathon at its running meetings, which were also held in the Linz area. None other than marathon professional Günther Weidlinger took over the management. Exactly ten years ago, the “Guglwald Moves” initiative was launched. The hotel in the Mühlviertel shows that wellness is much more than just relaxation. It also includes physical well-being, which is mainly strengthened by activity. Since then, the hotel has “moved” its guests and active people from the region to run – with a very specific goal: to take part in the Linz marathon. The “Guglwald Moves” team trains under the direction of Günther Weidlinger, Austrian record holder for various running distances. Every running club is individual – from slow endurance runs to lively interval runs. “So you can always take something with you for personal training,” says hotel manager Alexander Pilsl, who of course also runs himself.

Two months of preparation

“Our running clubs usually start two months before the big run in the state capital. This is the perfect phase for hobby runners to prepare for their marathon distance. But the best thing is that we train in the ‘Guglwald Moves’ team in places where otherwise our runners would never have had the opportunity to do so,” says Pilsl. This includes, for example, car park runs in the PlusCity shopping center or training on the athletics championship track. After the marathon, things continue actively. This year there is no official “Guglwald Moves” team at the marathon. “But of course we’re still happy to see a lot of green ‘Guglwald Moves’ shirts at the start again. Next year we’ll be at the start again as a big team,” Pilsl promises. Until then, however, a number of other sporting events are already planned, such as a three-day trail running camp in September. “A trail running expert from Salomon is coming to Guglwald,” says Pilsl, looking forward to exciting trail runs through the Mühlviertel.
