The Ascendor Handbike Half Marathon is one of the most important races in the Austrian handbike scene. Ascendor from Neufelden has given this race its name for the fourth time. Numerous exceptional athletes, including Paralympics winner and local hero Walter Ablinger, use this event to ring in the racing season. The start is on Sunday, April 16, traditionally at 8 a.m.
At 40 km/h across Linz
The fastest hand bikers from Germany and abroad will be on the route, which is exactly 20.95 kilometers long, at an average speed of 40 km/h. “For us, this sporting event is one of the absolute fixed dates of the year,” says Erwin Roither, operational director of Ascendor. “In this way we can offer the athletes a stage that is unique in Austria.” For Maximilian Priglinger, managing partner of Ascendor, sport has a high priority in society: “For us, it’s not always just the performance factor that counts, but also the social aspect,” he emphasizes the values of this event.
The route is identical to the half marathon course for the runners up to the last kilometer. Due to the road conditions, the destination is on the country road in the area of Wienerstraße/Unionkreuzung. This year, the ranking in the Ascendor Handbike Half Marathon is divided into para and tetra classes.
Numerous top handbike athletes use the race to get in the mood for the coming racing season and to enjoy the competitive atmosphere. Paralympics participant Elisabeth Egger or para-triathlete Florian Brungraber will be at the start. The handbike half marathon is also a special event for Paralympic winner Walter Ablinger. “The first race in the competition calendar is always a special one. Especially when it’s ‘our’ handbike half marathon in Linz.”
