MOSCOW, April 7 (Reuters) – The Russian economy contracted 2.7% on-year in the fourth quarter of 2022, data from the federal statistical service Rosstat showed on Friday.

For the year as a whole, the economy contracted 2.1%, Rosstat confirmed, after the West imposed sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The economy grew 3% in the first quarter of 2022 and fell 4.5% and 3.5% in subsequent quarters, according to revised data from the statistical service. (Reporting by Darya Korsunskaya; Editing in Spanish by Javier Leira)
