WASHINGTON, April 7 (Reuters) – Tesla is recalling just over 400 Model 3 vehicles in the United States because fixings on the front suspension side arms can become loose.

Tesla will tighten or replace the side link fasteners to fix the issue, which could allow the side link to separate from the subframe on 2018 and 2019 recall models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a side link separation could change wheel alignment, causing instability and increasing the risk of an accident.

Tesla said it has 25 warranty claims and 2 field reports since January 2019 that are or could be related to the recall, but no reports of crashes or injuries.

The new vehicle recall is an expansion of a 2021 recall for the same issue that covered nearly 2,800 2019-2021 Model 3 and 2020-2021 Tesla Model Y vehicles.

That recall came after Tesla said it escalated 39 service repairs in which one or both of the front suspension side-link fasteners were found loose or missing. (Reporting by David Shepardson; Editing in Spanish by Manuel Farías)
