According to the document, the state telephone company obtained 10,074 million pesos of Profits during the past year which, if the exchange rate as of December 30 is taken into account, is equivalent to about 251 million dollars. The amount of profits is slightly less than that obtained during 2021, when the figures were 10,766 million pesos —241 million dollars at the exchange rate of December 31, 2021.
The audit also states that in 2022 Antel transferred to General Income the sum of 4,860 million pesos —around 120 million dollars—, which were made up of 3,446 million pesos corresponding to the year 2021.
Another fact that emerges from the balance sheet is the number of officials that the state company had at the end of the year. In this sense, it is detailed that the average number of officials was 6,223, compared to the 6,507 that had registered in 2021. This implied expenses for salaries, benefits and social security costs of 10,582 million pesos —260 million dollars—for the company over the past year.
Also, the telephone company had net operating income for 41,176 million pesos, a figure higher than that of 2021, mainly through its main businesses: mobile telephony billing (20,123 million pesos), data services (17,070 million pesos) and fixed telephony (5,676 million pesos). .
In the case of fixed telephony, there was a reduction in revenue compared to 2021, while mobile and data services presented an increase. Other minor items were established in the balance sheet as “Other income” and “Other services”, which between the two items totaled 1,090 million pesos —27 million dollars.
Uruguay and Antel, of the best internet speeds
Antel was recognized for its technological improvements that allowed to increase the speed of fixed Internet, and Uruguay climbed 19 places in the global broadband speed rankingthus ranking in 16th place. In the last two years, the country has risen 40 places.
The news, communicated by the president of Antel, Gabriel Gurmendezis a boost for technological development in the territory, but also a sign of the efforts made in this regard by the government and the state telephone company.
Thus, Uruguay was ranked 16th in the Speedtest Global Indexabove countries like South Korea, Japan, Germany and Israel; and was also ranked as the second best Latin American in the rankingjust behind Chili —which came in fourth, dropping two positions.
With an internet speed of 149.56 Megabits per second (Mbps), the country was among the top 20 out of 180 countries in the world surveyed. Likewise, it was one of the few countries in the region that improved its position: bolivian moved up one position (123), Brazil (30) stayed the same, and Argentina (75), Paraguayan (60) and Peru (59) fell one, three and four places, respectively.
