The Brazilian Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship will lead the body made up of 19 portfolios and 19 civil society organizations, the Brazil news agency reported.

The objectives of this body will be to collaborate in the elaboration of public policies for this community, propose ways to evaluate actions aimed at LGTBIQ+ people, follow up on legislative proposals on the matter; promote studies, debates and research on the subject of rights and promote inclusion, among others.
The council must meet every three months, but other extraordinary meetings may be called, in accordance with the provisions of a decree published in the Official Gazette.
The president of the Maranhense Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals, Andressa Dutra, appreciated the creation of the council for the monitoring and representation of the community.
“We are currently suffering attacks against the dignity of the LGTBIQ+ population. We need our concerns, our desires, and how we want the State to see us to be taken into account, and that they be implemented as public policies,” he explained.
