The 59-year-old was noticed by a police patrol on Holy Saturday at around 12:30 p.m. in the district of Weitersfelden (Freistadt district) because of his unsafe driving style. The officers stopped the apparently drunk locals and asked him to take an alcohol test.
This fueled the suspicion of “massive alcohol consumption,” according to the police report. According to the usual procedure, the Mühlviertler was requested to carry out a check with the calibrated machine.
No effect except black lips
Obviously he had seen something like this coming, because he had – in a curious way – prepared himself. The 59-year-old fished a small plastic can filled with wood ash out of his pocket and emptied the contents into his mouth – even though the officials had instructed him not to eat anything until the test.
He then explained to the astonished police officers that he had heard that ash could influence the alcohol test in his favour. “Apart from black lips, a mouth full of ash and a complaint about refusal to take the alcohol test, none of this did him any good,” the police said on Sunday evening. The man was forbidden to continue driving.
