The United States announces financing for Uruguayan projects through its embassy

The U.S. Embassy in Uruguay announced that it will allocate $25,000 to finance projects of Uruguayan citizens or residents who have proposals to strengthen the economy, security and democracy.

According to the embassy statement, the projects must be “aligned with the strategic priorities of the Embassy in Uruguay.” On the other hand, they emphasize that projects that are intended to build a economy “diverse, resilient and sensitive to the environment” and that “extends opportunities to rural, vulnerable or less represented communities”. This also includes topics such as teaching English, technological languages ​​(ICTs) or STEAM.

Regarding the projects linked to the promotion of democracyprojects “promote institutionality and democratic values ​​in the region and in the world, prioritizing the diversity and inclusion of communities” and that promote human rights, fight corruption, promote literacy and account for the phenomenon of disinformation will be appreciated. .

Regarding the projects of local, regional and global security, Projects will be received aimed at “strengthening cybersecurity, prison system reform, resilience against violence and drug trafficking in populations at risk,” among others.

Who can be chosen?

The entities that can receive funds are non-profit organizations, think tanks, civil society, cultural associations, artists, government agencies and educational institutions.

From the Embassy they established that projects will be received on April 30, July 31 and October 31 and other possible dates that they will communicate as time passes.

A relationship that strengthens

Last week the president Luis Lacalle Pou met with US lawmakers at the presidential residence in Anchorena, in Cologne to talk about “the state of bilateral relations and the economy”, with the possibility of a trade pact between the two countries in the style of the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement).
