A planning notice published by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on April 4th it said the primary planned release date was Monday, but listed Tuesday and Wednesday of this week as reserve dates. Musk said last week that Starship would be ready for launch this week. However, the FAA issued a revised notice which said that the launch could take place on April 17th.
SpaceX has yet to get a release permission of the FAA for what is expected to be its first orbital flight test. One key hurdle remains: the completion of a federal environmental compliance review.
The plan is to deploy the second stage of the Starship in space, where it would complete a complete orbit of the earth before reentering the atmosphere and splashing down off the coast of Hawaii. The Super Heavy rocket is also scheduled to land in Texasnear the launch site.
