Since spring this year, a new educational forest trail at the foot of the Bohemian Forest has enriched the range of leisure activities in Aigen-Schlägl. As early as December 2021, the municipal council meeting decided to build a forest educational trail in the former park area on the northern outskirts of Aigen-Schlägl and further via the water wheel, the Calvary to the edge of the forest at Steinluß. Display boards and an information folder were developed together with the nature conservation association. Information on the topics of the forest habitat and ecosystem, dry habitats and future-oriented forest management as well as various tree and animal species can be collected at 15 stations on a varied circular route.
School classes welcome
Especially for school classes, the forest trail is a valuable and active supplement to the curriculum in relation to nature and environmental protection. The approximately three-kilometre-long circular route can be reached from the market square (or from the Höhenstrasse car park). The water wheel stationed at the beginning of the path was renewed by two building depot employees, and at the end of the forest nature trail you can enjoy a wonderful view over Aigen-Schlägl and beyond while taking a break at the edge of the forest. Everyone is cordially invited to expand their knowledge of the forest habitat and to visit the new forest trail in Aigen-Schlägl. This path is also ideal for a leisurely stroll. Whether in spring, summer, autumn or winter – the forest shows its most beautiful side in every season.
“Simply switch off, consciously enjoy nature and the silence and leave the forest as clean as we entered it,” invites Mayor Elisabeth Höfler to take advantage of the new offer.
The varied gastronomy in Aigen-Schlägl invites you to quench your thirst and hunger after the circular route and to let the hike end comfortably.
