The turnover for dairy exports grew by 13% year-on-year

He National Milk Institute (inhale) reported that, based on data from the National Customs Directoratethe turnover for exports of dairy products grew 13% year-on-year in the accumulated to March. The increase in income was benefited by a rise in the price of skim milk powder, butter and cheese.

March billing for whole powdered milk was 40.9 million dollars FOB —Free on Board—, 4.7 million dollars FOB for skim milk powder, 12.1 million dollars FOB for cheeses and 3.6 million dollars FOB for butter, totaling about 70.3 million dollars FOB.

Of the accumulated year-over-year of 229 million dollars, 143.1 million dollars were contributed by whole powdered milk, with a growth of 15% in turnover; 12.2 million dollars for skimmed milk powder, which fell 44%; 32.4 million dollars for cheeses with a positive variation of 29%, and 18.6 million dollars for butter, which grew by 1%.

In terms of volumes, among the four products mentioned a total of 15,482 tons were exported last month, where shipments of whole milk powder grew by 16% to 11,071 tons; those of skim milk powder collapsed 48% to reach 1,363 tons; cheeses grew 9% and completed 2,376 tons; and the quantity of butter fell 9% to 672 tons.

Dairy products had a general price increase

The average prices for the month were established at $3,693 the ton for whole powdered milk, meaning a year-on-year fall of 1%; $3,461 the ton for skim milk powder, with an increase of 8%; $5,087 per ton for cheeses, whose prices shot up 18%; and $5,423 per ton for butter, which despite being the most expensive product, grew another 11% year-on-year.

The main destination of Uruguayan dairy products was Brazilwith a 36% participation in the totalfollowed by Algeriawith 19%, and China with 8%. The largest importer of whole milk powder, skimmed milk powder and cheese was also Brazil, while the majority of butter shipments were destined for Russia.
