“Even after 15 years of development cooperation, there is still a lot to do,” says Susanne Gahleitner from Arnreit, who spent two weeks there again.
Susanne Gahleitner, board member of the Braveaurora association, experienced a roller coaster ride of emotions in northern Ghana: “I’m taking so many positive changes with me that we and the team are bringing about on site. Like the little girl who, thanks to our support, is no longer considered malnourished. On the other hand, I’ve seen so many situations deteriorating and crying out for support.”
Above all, climate change can be felt on the skin in Africa: “Around half of the people in rural areas live on poor agriculture and on less than ten euros a month. That’s why the Braveaurora association is focusing on vocational training,” reports Gahleitner from Training measures that are mainly used by young women. For example, she visited a group of hairdressers in the village of Mimima: “I was able to experience the enthusiasm with which the women pursue their training.” With their training, the women can later earn an income for themselves and their children. At the same time, workshops about breastfeeding and hygiene are provided.

Poverty and hunger are increasing, especially in rural areas. And, as always, the children are hit the hardest. Like two-year-old Ama, who is too skinny and too weak to walk again. After her mother died six months ago, her aunt takes care of Ama without any income.
