A traffic accident early Wednesday afternoon in the Kleinmünchen district of Linz caused a serious injury: a 79-year-old was probably run over by the rear axle of a garbage truck, the police said in the evening. The exact course of the accident was still unclear. According to witnesses, the woman had come by bike from an adjacent park just as the garbage truck had emptied a bin and returned it to a house.
The 31-year-old passenger saw how the woman got down from her bike behind the garbage truck and passed between the truck and the house wall. He got on, the garbage truck drove off, which is probably where the accident happened. The garbage man saw the seriously injured woman lying on the ground and, together with his colleague, provided first aid. The elderly woman from Linz was taken to the accident hospital with serious injuries.
Two fatal accidents
Two truck accidents in Vienna and Lower Austria ended fatally on Wednesday: On Wednesday morning in the federal capital, a woman was run over by a truck when she tried to cross two lanes. The 60-year-old died at the scene of the accident.
According to the executive, the 49-year-old driver of the truck is said to have stopped due to a traffic jam on the left-turn lane from Sterngasse to Pfarrgasse in Vienna-Liesing. The woman should have used the moment to cross the street and reach a green strip. When the truck started moving again, the woman was run over. She suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene of the accident. According to the officials, there was no protective path or pedestrian traffic light at the accident site.
One fatality was also reported in Bruck an der Leitha: a 57-year-old driver may have overlooked and run over the 64-year-old when leaving a construction site, the police said in a broadcast. According to the information, the rescue chain was set in motion immediately. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. The local succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.
