Where the food comes from: start of the HofACKERdemie

Most groceries are bought in supermarkets ready to eat and packed in plastic. Many people no longer know where and how this food is produced. That was the reason for Margit Ziegelbäck, Chairwoman of the Steinhaus Women’s Farmers’ Advisory Council, and District Farmers’ Chamber Chairman Leopold Keferböck to start the “HofACKERdemie” project. The aim is for as many elementary school children as possible to come into direct contact with agriculture and learn more about nature, the environment and animals first-hand and about how local food is produced. For example, during visits to a farm or workshops by seminar farmers in schools. The HofACKERdemie folder was developed for this purpose, which is filled with worksheets, offers and contact details of seminar farmers as well as addresses of “schools on the farm” and is presented by the farmers in the schools. They also invite you to visit the farm. The project is supported by the Wels Chamber of Agriculture and District Farmers and the LEADER region of Wels-Land, which covers 70 percent of the bus costs to the farms.
