Mattos received Chinese authorities seeking to expand agricultural exports

China receives 60% of the grains exported from Uruguay, but MGAP also seeks to sell more poultry products or new cuts of beef.

the minister fernando mattos and representatives of Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), held a meeting on Tuesday with an official delegation China headed by the vice administrator of the National Administration of Food and Strategic Reserves of the Asian country, jia qian.

There, topics such as updating the sanitary and phytosanitary protocols between both parties were discussed, as well as the possibility that Uruguay can expand its agricultural exports, to be able to sell poultry products or new cuts of beef.

Prior to Minister Mattos’s trip to the Asian giant, the Chinese delegation decided to visit the country in order to learn more about grain production. China is the recipient of 60% of exported grains from Uruguay, as well as the current situation of other products.

under the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and China, and the recently signed protocols to export barley and sorghum, to which rapeseed could be added, our country will seek the incorporation of an export pattern for lemons, honey, wheat and other products.

For this, between April 24 and 25, the MGAP will hold meetings with representatives of the China General Administration of Customsas an opportunity to discuss the current protocols for different export items.

The undersecretary of the MGAP, Juan Ignacio Buffasigned a Memorandum of understanding (MOU) together with Jia Qian seeking to promote cooperation in the grain sector. In turn, the meeting served to exchange information and statistical data between both nations.

Mattos seeks to finalize shipments of poultry meat to China

Minister Mattos remains expectant in being able to receive authorization to export poultry meat to China, as well as meat by-products such as bovine tongue and mondongo, which for the minister are “highly appreciated in the Asian country and that were not contemplated in the last protocol“.

In turn, he stressed that Uruguay is consolidated with regard to the export of horse meat, and could include sports horses in the export guideline. Finally, he highlighted the excellent health condition of our country, something that ensures the absence of risks in export.
