The Red Cross, in cooperation with the Haslach health center, narrowly prevailed in the final of the “Startklar” initiative against the Waldwichterl association and the Arcus social network. With the financial support of the Sparkasse Mühlviertel-West (SMW) in the amount of 10,000 euros, the “Beherzt” project will strengthen the health skills of elementary school children.

Online voting brought the victory

“After the jury’s assessment, it was a head-to-head race between the three finalists of the Startklar initiative. The live presentations inspired us all and convinced us both in terms of content and implementation,” says Christian Terink, CEO of SMW. In the end, it was the online voting that gave “Beherzt” the win. In various modules, the project imparts knowledge on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases on the one hand, and on the other hand courageous intervention and help in emergencies is trained. In addition, children acquire skills that make them more resilient to stress. “Regular health promotion training should be permanently integrated into everyday school life at the participating schools,” says doctor Thomas Peinbauer from the Haslach Health Center.

Special price for Aqua Sharks

In addition to the “Startklar” project, the SMW awarded a special prize worth 2,000 euros for a project to promote youth and young talent. Here the swimming section “Aqua Sharks” of the Sportunion Rohrbach-Berg was able to prevail. The financial support enables the purchase of new swimming equipment for baby and children’s swimming courses.

To be continued in 2024

The great demand with over 40 submissions and the positive feedback encourage the SMW to continue the “Startklar” project in 2024. The jury was also enthusiastic and spoke in favor of a new edition: “With this initiative, SMW hits the nerve of the times, because right now there is a great need for charitable projects.”
