The tourist flow between the two countries is common due to the ease of transportation and the last full month of the high season was no exception.
February closed as the last month of great tourist movement in the country —with the exception of the Tourism Weekrecently finished—, and the borders of Uruguay They saw foreigners crossing into the territory as well as Uruguayans who visited other countries during the second month of the year. In this sense, one of the main points of exchange was with Argentina, as usual: what was the tourist balance with this nation?
According to the data of the Institute of Statistics and Censuses of Argentina (Indec), of the total of 1,096,600 tourists that the neighboring country received, 14.4% came from Uruguay. In the opposite direction, of the total of 1,496,000 Argentine residents who left during February, 20.6% chose the Charrúa lands to vacation.
This means that, during the second month of the year, 157,824 Uruguayans entered Argentina, while 308,176 Argentines visited Uruguay. The balance, almost logically, is negative for the country with a significantly smaller amount of population. Although, in the same proportional terms, the difference is not that great, since the balance is 150,352 tourists in favor of the neighboring country.
Tourism Week and a large number of visitors in the country
According to National Directorate of Migration, during Tourism Week —which lasted from April 2 to 9— the tourist balance was also negative for Uruguay, as more tourists left the country than entered.
Still, the numbers were optimistic, with 351,260 people who entered Uruguay. Of that total, 252,466 were Uruguayans, 63,945 Argentines, 14,862 Brazilians, and 2,656 Americans. The most used border points were the bridge of Paysandú, General Artigas Bridge, with 74,067 people.
This is followed by Libertador General San Martin International Bridgeof Friar Bentos, with 73,868 and Cologne with 58,040. In last place is the PSalto Grande International Bridgewith 56,732while for the Carrasco International Airport entered 28,916 people.
As for the exits from abroad, 364,284 people came out of Uruguay during Tourism Week. The main starting point was the Paysandú bridge with 76,476 people. This is followed by the Fray Bentos bridge with 74,399 people. In third place is the Colonia border crossing, Thirty-Three Eastern Bridge, 59,823 people left Uruguay. Finally, there is the Salto bridge with 54,844 people.
