The Linz Danube Marathon as Upper Austria’s most important running event, Wolfgangseelauf, Hallstättersee-Rundlauf, Traunsee Half-Marathon, Bad Ischler Kaiserlauf and Mondseelauf – these are the “Big Six” in the state when it comes to long-distance competitions. Like almost all running events, the latter has had a drop in participants in recent years, also “thanks” to Corona. But that should finally change again. Also with a small change of image.
So the name changed from Mondseelauf (this actually only appears on the website www.mondseelauf.at) to “Mondseer Lauftag”. Furthermore, the event sees itself as the only big event for the whole (running-enthusiastic) family, where in the 41st edition all competitions will be held on a single day (Saturday, June 3rd).
They all start at the market square in Mondsee, as if there were: the main competition, the MondseeHaus half-marathon along the Mondsee, towards St. Lorenz, then along the foot of the Drachenwand and back to the lake. The finish leads through the Seeallee to the market square. The BWT 10-kilometer run, which is partly identical to the half-marathon route, but turns earlier. The 5-kilometer run along the southern shore of the Mondsee to Schwarzindien and back. The Sumsi children’s and youth run on a circuit from the market square through the Seeallee. And finally the team run. Teams of three to five will start. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a half marathon or a 10-kilometer race: For the team, the time for the first ten kilometers of the three fastest members of the group counts.
