Luis Alberto Lacalle is hospitalized in Buenos Aires for an infection in his leg

The former president had to be treated after a tribute to his grandfather, Luis Alberto de Herrera, in the Argentine capital.

The former President of the Republic, Luis Alberto Lacalle should have been admitted to the Mater Dei Sanatorium of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) after participating in a tribute in Plaza Uruguay to his grandfather and political leader of the National Party (PN), Luis Alberto de Herreratogether with the head of the city government, Horacio Rodriguez Larretaand the ambassador of Uruguay in Argentina, Carlos Enciso.

Lacalle was bitten by a spider during Holy Week and, as a result of an infection in his foot that has now spread to his leg, will remain under observation for 48 hours. So far the type of spider that caused the infection is unknown.

The former head of state is stable, but canceled his face-to-face participation in an event on Herrera and Argentina at the Argentine Center for International Relations that was on his agenda. However, it will be present via video call.

Luis Alberto de Herrera was honored by the CABA government this Thursday, with the aim of highlighting his work and political legacy. The historical figure of PN was distinguished with a bust donated by Luis Alberto Lacalle himself. During the ceremony, Rodríguez Larreta stressed the importance and need to “maintain the legacy of the River Plate leaders.”

“Our countries share ties of brotherhood, marked by a common culture and idiosyncrasy. For this reason, it is very important for us to recognize Luis Alberto de Herrera, whose legacy continues to this day, with a president like Luis Lacalle Pouwhose primary objective is the development of his country and the progress of all Uruguayans,” said Rodríguez Larreta.

Luis Alberto de Herrera, who died on April 8, 1959, was a Uruguayan politician, journalist and historian who stood out for being the main leader of the PN during over 50 yearsand served as president of the National Administration Council from 1925 to 1927and member of National Council of Government between 1955 to 1959.
