The internal discussion in the government over the social security reform does not stop After long negotiations with Open Town Hall (CA)Presidency agreed on some changes to the project and now Colorado Party made other objections. “The truth is that sometimes not I understand”, expressed the senator Guido Manini Rios.
Once a channel seemed to have been found in the tensions of the Multicolor Coalition by pension reformthe disagreement of the colorados muddied the issue again.
“Let’s hope it’s serious”, he added in conversation with Telemundo the leader of CA, who also stated: “We are going to seriously analyze any proposal that is for improvement. What I hope is that both the Colorado Party and the other parties in the coalition act with serenity and responsibility and live up to the the historical hour that we live”.
After obtaining, for example, an agreed number of years for the retirement calculation –which will become 20 years, and not 25 as indicated in the original proposal of the Executive Power–, the colorados analyze –Ciudadanos and Batillistas separately– different proposals to present to the Presidency.
Alvaro DelgadoSecretary of the Presidency, tried to lower tensions in the last hours and referred to the attitude of the Colorado Party: “It seems correct and positive to me, they have every right not only to study the fundamentals of the changes that have been introduced but also to generate alternative aspects”. In addition, he said that they expect “next week to face the vote.”
Manini Ríos, who was at the inauguration of Expo Melilla, acknowledged: “Sometimes one is surprised by some kind of reaction. We hope that the country can have the reform that makes the system more sustainable in the future.”
Colorado Party studies alternatives for social security reform
Although at the moment there are no definitions among the Colorados, some points generate more doubts than others when agreeing. One of them is the formula agreed by Lacalle Pou and Manini Ríos around the years considered for the replacement rate calculation —Fundamental for what is the definition of the basic retirement salary.
On this point, there are those who consider it a fait accompli on which it is not worth discussing —in as much as it condenses, moreover, the lobbying votes—; while others seek to present an alternative, pointing out that even the government was not going to give in on the issue and ended up giving in to CA’s demands.
Another point of indecision has at its center the parastatal boxes: a group of colorados considers that the modified project that the Executive Branch sent to Parliament at the end of March has a confusing wording regarding the future of the Notary Box and the “window period”, which grants power to the government in power instead of making the entry of affiliates to the common system subject through a law.
