Deep Rudolf haunts Austria and brings winter back in some places. Motorways also became snow lanes on Friday morning. In Lower Austria, for example, on the A21 towards St. Pölten and on the A2 in the Neunkirchen district, trucks kept getting stuck. In Carinthia, a truck crashed into a ditch in wintry driving conditions.

“Small-scale flooding is possible and at higher altitudes there are also problems from snow breakage,” said an expert from Geosphere Austria – that happens when very wet and therefore heavy Snow Break branches or fall trees.

In some parts of Upper Austria, winter tires were still a good thing this morning. On April 14, higher-lying towns in the Mühlviertel and the southern highlands presented themselves all in white. From Aigen-Schlägl in the district of Rohrbach to Ebensee in the Salzkammergut, winter returned with the influence of low pressure. Christian Nimmervoll, who runs the Facebook page wetter-muehlviertel.at, put a photo from the snowy Kirchschlag near Linz online.

Deep winter prospects

When will the spook be over? According to Geosphere Austria, the heavy rainfall lasts all day, especially in Upper Austria’s mountains. Dry phases are only possible on Friday in the Innviertel. The meteorologists have announced that it can be deep winter in the night to Saturday in the higher regions of the Mühlviertel.

In an interview with nachrichten.at, meteorologist Christian Ortner even spoke of up to 20 centimeters, which can come together above 800 meters. It can snow up to half a meter on the mountains. As a result, the avalanche danger increases again sharply.

Good running weather

On Saturday the snow line is 700 to 900 meters high. Especially in the Salzkammergut and in the southern Innviertel it should rain or snow heavily in the morning hours. Relaxation finally sets in for the Linz marathon on Sunday. At first there are still dense clouds in many places, but during the course of the day you can look forward to a few rays of sunshine again. The good news: Away from the mountains, it should stay dry all day. The temperatures reach eight to twelve degrees.
