The German Shakespeare Society announced that the award will be presented in Weimar on April 23. The award will be presented for the first time and will go every two years to public figures who have made a special contribution to the work of Shakespeare and its dissemination.
No information was initially given on the endowment. The awards ceremony will take place during Shakespeare Days April 21-23. The theme of this year’s conference is “Shakespeare’s Libraries”. Lecturers from England, Germany and the USA will, among other things, shed light on the influence of early modern book culture on Shakespeare’s works and their reception beyond England’s borders. At the same time, the President of the German Shakespeare Society, Claudia Olk, will hand over her office to a successor to be elected.
