“It is the first recovery that has been made of the Fingers. It is a joint effort (from the municipality of Punta del Este) with the mayor’s office and also the Kavlin Center, which is the one that makes the recovery protocol”, said the chief.

How will the works for the restoration of the Fingers of Punta del Este be?

As they explained, the work of art that already has 41 years of existence had some problems in its base and some cracks, fissures and imperfections in the part of the fingers. “It is important to have it back as it deserves,” said Carballal.

Thus, in addition to the restoration of the monument, a new lighting and signage imported, which will represent “a very important investment”, assured the mayor.

But at the same time, there will be a notorious change for those who go to Playa Brava of the famous spa: the iconic symbol of the most recognized city in the department of Maldonado will have another color. Now, it will have the “original color thought by the Chilean author Mario Irarrázabal”, the sand.

The project is part of the recovery and restoration process of the Walk of the Americas. This year, in fact, other works included the creation of a wooden walkway over the sand in the “La Mano” area to protect it.
