The 86-year-old was transferred to another ward in the same clinic as his condition has steadily improved, the head of the intensive care unit, Alberto Zangrillo, said in his recent bulletin on Sunday.

Berlusconi was admitted to the intensive care unit at the San Raffaele Clinic in Milan on Wednesday last week after complaining of breathing problems. Doctors then diagnosed leukemia.

In recent years, Berlusconi has repeatedly struggled with serious health problems. The multi-billionaire had open heart surgery in 2016, in 2019 for an intestinal obstruction, and in 2021 he spent more than three weeks in the hospital due to the consequences of a corona infection.

Berlusconi was Prime Minister of Italy four times (1994-1995, 2001-2005, 2005-2006 and 2008-2011). His right-wing conservative Forza Italia party has been part of the governing coalition led by right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni since October, but has lost prominence in recent years. Berlusconi himself was elected to the Senate in September’s parliamentary elections.
