Santiago de Chile and nearby communes fall out of phase due to the advance of the coronavirus

“We are concerned about the situation in the Metropolitan region, which in some days has exceeded 3 percent positivity of PCR tests,” explained the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, in statements to the press.

Earlier, Piñera admitted “a certain outbreak” of the coronavirus pandemic and called on the population to “move forward with greater freedom (of movement and assembly) and that requires greater responsibilities.”

The president revealed that “in recent weeks we have had a reappearance in the number of infections and hospitalizations” and before this he called for reinforcing personal care measures such as the use of a chinstrap, physical distancing and ventilating closed places.

Piñera also called for continuing with the national vaccination plan as a measure to avoid deaths and hospitalizations due to coronavirus, the Europa Press news agency reported.

“Every day we are going to be tougher and more demanding so that everyone gets vaccinated,” warned Piñera, who said that “only then will we be able to overcome the pandemic.”

In total, Chile has 9,973 active cases, the highest number since last July 20, when there were 10,400.

With today’s figure, the country has already accumulated six consecutive days registering more than 1,000 daily cases.

The measures will be in effect seven days a week and there will no longer be mobility restrictions, authorities said.

As specified by the Undersecretary of Healthcare Networks, Alberto Dougnac, the setback “responds to this increase observed in recent weeks and which aims to preventively reduce the risk of increased contagion.”

“This change of stage is essentially restricting capacity. In this sense, it is important to remember that in the case of social gatherings, those who have a mobility pass can hold social gatherings with a capacity of up to 25 people. Meanwhile, if there is one that does not have a mobility pass, this number is reduced to 10 people, “the official explained.

According to information from the health authority, for classes and face-to-face activities in nurseries, kindergartens and school education establishments, attendance is voluntary, but opening is mandatory.

Regarding higher education institutions, classes and face-to-face activities are “allowed”.

For meetings in private residences, the accepted capacity is a maximum of ten people, although it rises to 25 if all participants have their mobility pass enabled.

Regarding the crisis of hospitalized patients, 443 people admitted to intensive care units were reported, of which 353 are connected to mechanical ventilation.

Regarding the vaccination plan, 13,596,592 people inoculated with two doses are registered.
