Fan heater caused fire in Schärdinger chemical warehouse

At around 10.30 a.m., an employee of the company noticed an “extraordinary heat development” on the partition wall to the warehouse, reports the police. When he unlocked the outside door together with the company boss, thick smoke came from the storage room. Chemicals such as resins, varnishes and gas bottles were stored in it.

E-bikes stored next door

The Schärding fire brigade announced that two other companies with electric bicycles and plants are also housed in the same building. 35 firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control. “The ventilation turned out to be a lot more work,” says the fire department. Several high-performance fans were used.

After about two and a half hours, the fire brigades were able to move back in. Fire investigators assume that a defective fan heater caused the fire. The police could not give any information about the extent of the damage in the afternoon.
