LINZ/SALZBURG. After the double murder in Wals-Siezenheim in Salzburg in May 2021, in which two women, a 50-year-old woman and her 76-year-old mother, were killed by pistol shots, a former private detective (52) was sentenced to life imprisonment.
During the appeal hearing at the Linz Higher Regional Court, the convicted 52-year-old’s application for a reduced sentence was not granted. There was no reason to correct the sentence imposed by the first court for such a serious crime, said an OLG spokesman when asked by OÖN. The man’s admission to a forensic-therapeutic institution because of dangerousness, which was ordered in addition to life imprisonment, also remains in place.
The accused had contested the verdict of the Salzburg jury by means of a nullity complaint and an appeal. The Supreme Court dismissed the defendant’s appeal in March this year, making the double murder conviction final.
The only question that remained was whether the court of first instance had correctly determined the amount of the penalty. In order to prevent the murder of women, the verdict must have “a deterrent effect,” it said at the time the verdict was announced in Salzburg. The Supreme Court did not object to this.
The man from Salzburg drove to the family home where the 50-year-old lived at 10:30 p.m. on the night of the crime. First, there is said to have been an argument with the mother, who, like the brother of the 50-year-old, was apparently against the relationship between the two. The mother insulted him, also called him a “house thief” and tried to steer him out of the house. He then drew his gun, a legally owned Glock pistol, and fired 11 times at close range.
Three shots hit the mother and seven shots hit the daughter. A shot missed. The accused even reloaded the gun, but because the loading jammed, he was no longer able to fire any more shots, the prosecutor said at the time.
The perpetrator fled. He was tracked down overnight at a campsite between Strobl and St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang, where he allowed himself to be arrested without resistance. (staro)
