The labor demand in March it rose 7% compared to the previous month, reported the consultancy advice in your last Monthly Monitor. However, in the year-on-year comparison, there is a drop of 8%.
Taking the January-March quarterly average (more indicative of trends), labor demand fell 22% compared to the previous quarter, October-December, and was 2% below what was registered in the same period last year.
According to Advice, “the decline observed in recent months is part of a expected normalization process After a year characterized by a exceptional growth”. It should be noted that last November was the month with the highest labor demand in recent years.
Vacancies difficult to fill
In a special focus in the report, Advice revealed which are the most difficult jobs for employers to fill in Uruguay. This is evaluated by the time between the call and the contracting (duration of the demand), the number of times or communication channels through which the call is made (the notice can go through various channels or repeatedly, which illustrates intensity of demand) and by the number of calls for that type of position (volume of demand).
Several jobs emerge from the analysis of these variables, high rating and of bad note, harder to cover than average. In the case of highly-skilled jobs, jobs of the technological area: Programmer, Software Engineer, Systems Engineer and Database Administrator. Also appearing, a few positions below, are Infrastructure Technician and Executive Chef.
Among the low-skilled jobs, it is more difficult to fill the positions of Promoter, Distribution Cadet, Customer Service Representative, Order Setter and Stock Clerk.
According to Advice, in hard-to-fill high-skill jobs (mostly tech) there are few able-bodied workers who are unemployed, so that competition is intense, global and that is why it is difficult to fill the positions.
In the case of low-skilled jobs, the greater relative difficulty in filling the aforementioned positions has different causes. “These are ideal positions for young people who have not yet completed higher education and are available to work, and who find in this type of position a gateway to the labor market”, Advice points out in its report.
“However -he continues- for these positions employers demand between 1 and 2 years of previous experience. This may be understandable from the perspective of employers, but the requirements are high in relation to the qualification level of the positions, which -in addition- are characterized by having low salaries and unattractive employment conditions”, adds the report.
