He was on his way to a plant in Gmunden when the 47-year-old truck driver trusted his navigation system and turned into Hatschekstrasse, a private road in Altmünster that was hardly paved. Disregarding a no-driving sign, the driver steered his semitrailer into the dead end until he couldn’t go any further. However, while attempting to turn the multi-ton vehicle, he maneuvered it into adjacent terrain and caused extensive crop damage in the fields before eventually getting stuck in the mud.
“With the help of two winches, a tractor and crane pads, which had to be fetched from a company in Pettenbach, the heavy vehicle could be turned around,” reports the Altmünster fire brigade. “Due to the damage in the meadow, all the material used and the road were very dirty due to the large amount of mud, which then had to be cleaned at great expense.”
Several fire brigades had to rescue the truck from the rain-soaked and impassable terrain in a four-hour operation using heavy equipment.
