The president of bolivian, Luis Arce, celebrated this Tuesday the 16th anniversary of the creation of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) waiting for its strengthening and proposing that work be done to “reach a single South American currency alternative to the dollar to make trade in the region more profitable.”
BOLIVIA proposed the creation of a SINGLE CURRENCY in SOUTH AMERICA
In a message on YouTube, Arce recalled that the purpose of Unasur is to strengthen social justice, democracy and inclusion, safeguarding the sovereignty and independence of the member countries, recognizing their diversity.
“Reactivating Unasur means allowing Latin America to integrate into a multipolar world with the principle of solidarity and political and social transformation, for peace, human rights and those of our Mother Earth”said.
After welcoming the announcement by Argentina and Brazil of their re-entry into the Union, the Bolivian head of state also called on the other “South American peoples to be part of it.”

In addition, under the argument that “our North is in the South,” Arce said he was sure that with Unasur “it will be possible to have concrete responses to the needs of our peoples.”
Founded in 2008 in Brasilia, the organization has come to have 12 member countries, but it entered into crisis between 2018 and 2020 when several of them decided to leave it due to ideological differences.
Shortage of dollars in Bolivia
Arce’s proposal comes at a time when Bolivia is facing a serious crisis of reserves due to the shortage of dollars. Given this, the demand turned to the euro, the currency of the European Union, whose price reaches Bs 8.60, when the official exchange rate is Bs 7.45.
For the past two months, the exchange market has suffered changes due to the fragility of net international reserves (RIN) and inefficient government measures to deal with this situation, according to analysts, and speculation and political attacks, according to the government.
