The green turnaround in freight transport, the importance of cultural factors in the expansion of online platforms, the boom in video conferences and the consequences of this for everyday work, or how to use management data to predict delivery delays – the six winners of the “Chimney Award” 2023 impressed with their The jury’s thesis with cutting-edge topics. For the 24th time, the best master’s and bachelor’s theses by graduates were given this award at the Steyr campus. The template for the sculpture of this award are the still preserved, distinctive chimneys of the former hacking works, in which the Faculty of Economics and Management is located in the Steyr Wehrgraben.

This year, awards were presented to Victoria Christina Bauer (25) from Waldhausen im Strudengau, Jannick Kern (23) from Pregarten, Christian Roland Raab (30) from Neuhofen an der Krems, Jakob Reisinger (23) from Kasten near Böheimkirchen (Lower Austria), Alexander Strauß ( 27) from St. Pantaleon (Lower Austria) and Denise Beil (26) from St. Marien. She is also the only one currently living in Steyr.
studies after the apprenticeship
After completing an apprenticeship in the logistics sector, Beil passed the university entrance qualification exam at the University of Applied Sciences in Steyr, began her bachelor’s degree in “International Logistics Management” and has now completed her master’s degree in “Supply Chain Management”. In the meantime, she is already working at the logistics center on the FH campus in Steyr.
“My goal is a career in logistics research,” says the 26-year-old. It was the passion of the teachers here in Steyr that inspired them to study, as well as the enormous practical relevance on the campus in the Wehrgraben. In her master’s thesis, for which she has now received an award from the jury, Beil dealt with the topic of modal shift from the road to environmentally friendly modes of transport.
The “Chimney Award” (Note: Chimney means chimney) is the most important award of the FH Upper Austria Faculty for Economics and Management. Six graduates with excellent academic success and the most innovative theses are honored every year with the traditional award. Theses in the areas of controlling and finance, marketing and sales, production, logistics, digital business and process management are evaluated by a top-class jury according to scientific, practice-relevant and innovative aspects. The award ceremony recently took place in the Museum of Working World in Steyr.
