“A video has been circulating showing a recent encounter where a boy asks His Holiness if he could give him a hug. His Holiness wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends around the world, for the pain he may have caused with his words. His Holiness often jokes around with people he knows in an innocent and playful way, even in public and on camera,” the message read.
But far from dispelling criticism, the appearance of the latest video, added to the successive blunders over the years, such as a comment that a female successor should be pretty, have sullied the reputation of the spiritual leader.
