Ten days after the start of the National Census 2023with its first stage in digital format, the National Statistics Institute (INE) meets with different referents of the political parties of Uruguay with parliamentary representation to explain and finalize details on how the population survey will be carried out at the national level.

The countdown has already begun so that, in just over a week, the online form to begin completing the digital Census, before the face-to-face stage that will take place from May 17.


In this context, INE representatives organized a series of meetings with political party leaders that have parliamentary representation, to explain the keys to the new Census, which incorporates, among other novelties, this virtual format to speed up information and data collection times.
In this way, the first meeting will be at the headquarters of the independent party, with the president Omar Rodriguez Erraca, and then hold a meeting with the Population, Development and Inclusion Commission in it Parliament.
The third on the agenda of the statistical entity is the vice president Beatriz Argimon, who will receive the representatives of the INE in his office. The latter will culminate their visits in the annex of the Legislative Palace, with the president of Open Town Hall, Guillermo Domenech, at his office.
What are the keys to the 2023 Census?
The Census will begin on April 29: for the first time, the first stage will be online and will last for four weeks in which the records can be completed through a web page, with any digital device with Internet access —self-census —; while as of May 17, the census takers will carry out the face-to-face survey in 1,500,000 homes in 650 localities.
The virtual census can be completed by entering censo2023.uy, and it will be necessary to identify the household with the meter data and the UTE account number to identify the households. The questionnaire will be available every day of the week during 24 hours, and can be completed from anywhere with internet connection.
To carry out the population, household and housing survey, some 7,000 people will be hired who will charge up to 30,000 pesos each. To work as a census taker, it will be a requirement to have completed the third year of high school, although selection will be carried out according to educational level. In addition, the census takers will be duly identified to avoid scams during the face-to-face sessions.
In charge of the 2023 Census will be the director of the INE, Diego Aboal, who has spent more than two decades leading analysis teams and also the Center for Economic Research.
