The sale of electric vehicles shot up almost 68% in March

The Automotive Trade Association of Uruguay reported the total number of units dispatched compared to the month of February.

The Automotive Trade Association of Uruguay (ACAU) reported that the sale of electric vehicles skyrocketed almost 68% during the month of March in comparison with the units dispatched in February. According to ACAU, the data continues to mark the dominance of the SUV segment.

In March, some 23 cars of this type were sold, some 71 SUVs and 35 utility vehicles, for a total of 129 electric vehicles 0 km. While in the month of February the figures were 15 cars, 35 SUVs, and 27 utilities for a total of 77 vehicles. In neither of the two months were there sales of trucks, minibuses, or buses.

The sale of electric vehicles climbed by more than 90% during 2022

The ACAU had already indicated that the sale of electric vehicles climbed by 90.33% in 2022 compared to 2021. That is, it almost doubled. In the breakdown by segments, the automobiles of this type were the most increased by 153.63%.

During 2022, a total of 1,043 electric vehicles were sold compared to the 548 sold in 2021. Of the total sales last year, 629 of them were automobiles, meaning 60.31% of these. SUVs reported sales of 224 units, a share of the total of 21.48% and an increase of 72.31% compared to 130 units in 2021.

In Utility vehicles, an increase of 24.43% was registered compared to the previous year, with some 163 units, compared to the 131 placed in 2021. This segment represented 15.63% of annual sales. On the other hand, the only segment that fell (30.77%) in comparison with 2021 was that of electric trucks, since in 2022 only 27 were sold compared to 39 units the previous year. This segment participated in 2.59% of the total.
