BCU alert for scams via WhatsApp in the name of Banca Activa

The entity offers loans with prior disbursement and is not authorized by the Central Bank.

He Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) warned of the existence of scams against people through the instant messaging application, WhatsAppof an entity or person that bears the name of “Active Bank SA” either “Financial Banking” and that offers loans, but they require, in the first instance, a disbursement.

This entity, as explained by the BCU, is not registered with the regulatory body nor does it have the room to operate on behalf of the Superintendency of Financial Services. The problem arose when a user of the bank claimed that they had not deposited the money from the loan to which he agreed.

During the scam, as explained by the injured user, he was required to make several previous payments, which corresponded to “stamps and stamps” through Abitab. From the fraudster entity they also gave him documentation where the BCU logo and a company registered by the BCU appeared, “Val Financial Services”, but that is not enabled to provide credits.

“The inclusion of the Banco Central del Uruguay (BCU) logo leads to confusion among users regarding the legal situation of the entity and the scope of regulation and supervision of the Central Bank of Uruguay in relation to those responsible for it,” the resolution notes. , which adds that the BCU does not participate in any commercial operation of third parties offering products and services, nor does it sponsor any entity.

The recommendations of the BCU

Faced with possible scams, the regulatory entity recalled, first of all, that the use of the word “bank” either “banking” is prohibited in all private entities, except when approved by the Executive Power to act as a bank, according to article 3 of Decree Law 15,322.

On the other hand, users were advised to obtain clear, accurate, timely and sufficient information of the service provider, its reputation, as well as the operations and conditions to which they will be subject. Added to this, they recommend verifying if the entity is registered or is authorized by the Superintendence of Financial Services of the BCU to operate, something that can be verified on the official page of the regulatory entity.
