The tamberos of Uruguay are going through moments of concern in the midst of the union conflict that takes place in the plant of Conaprole of villa rodriguez and that, according to them, it is forcing milk due to the delays generated in the unloading of the tanker trucks. Faced with this, the dairy unions urged the union to give up the fight measures.
The main problem in dairy farms is the delay in receiving milkin which the Rodríguez plant is fundamental insofar as the one with higher absorption capacity by the time of the year; especially after some plants closed due to low production and all operations were focused on the establishment that was the protagonist of the conflict.
“There were up to 45 tanker trucks waiting to unload at the plant and those waits delay the dairy hours,” he added. The big problem is that “the cistern cannot be the udders of the cows, because then come all the problems of udder inflammation, health and even having to discard cows. What happens is that the dairyman starts milking and there comes a time when the tank is full and overflows, then he spills milk,” he explained. Justin Zavala, director of the Association of Tamberos de Canelones and sender to Conaprole.
The context is aggravated if one takes into account the difficult moment the sector is going through, with a debt due to the drought estimated at 100 million dollars for the National Milk Institute (Inale).
The tamberos ask that the measures of force be ended
For the trade unionists, the union conflict does not make sense since there were no job losses or salary impacts, not even during the worst moment of the drought. For this reason, they issued a statement to the public opinion in which they stated that “once again we dairy farmers met for the negligent and disproportionate attitudes of the Conaprole union”.
In the text, the dairy farmers recall the sector’s debt and the extremely negative impact of the drought that has generated a complex financial situation for the coming years and that has already caused 40 producers and their workers to abandon the activity.
“It is outrageous that the people in the dairy sector who have been least affected by this situation (in their salary, jobs and rights) are the ones who today take these measures that compromise Conaprole and therefore their owners, the producers,” they maintain. . In addition, they point out that “it seems incredible” that in this context the producers “have once again to face the damages from union disputes”.
According to the document, many producers have the tanks at the top of their capacity, they are altering their milking routines so they lose production and, in some cases, milk has been spilled. “The worst part of this situation is that the conflict responds to a business decision to invest in a state-of-the-art box packaging machine for ultra-pasteurized milk (…). In short, this technological change will be carried out without loss of labor sources, or reduction of wages”, they explain.
In this sense, the dairy unions urged the union authorities to desist from control measuressince they affect producers, workers in the dairy chain and consumers.
