A cyberattack paralyzes service stations in Iran

“The details of the attack and its source are being investigated,” added the chain, which specified that the system shutdown had blocked fuel pumps throughout Iran.

The other television media showed images of long lines at closed service stations.

The spokesperson for Iran’s national society for the distribution of petroleum products, Fatemeh Kahi, stated that an urgent meeting was called to resolve the problem situation.

For its part, the conservative news agency Fars linked the collapse to the proximity of the second anniversary of the deadly protests in November triggered by a rise in fuel prices.

In some cities, the phrase “Where is our oil, Khameneí?” appeared written on digital advertising screens.

It is a message addressed to the supreme leader There Jameneí, in reference to the high fuel prices afflicting the Iranian people.

The Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, quoted by the Irna agency, urged the population to “not worry” and estimated that the episode will not cause an increase in prices.

In 2019, in the protests in Iran against the increase in fuel prices there were hundreds of deaths and thousands of arrests.
