Lawyer Astrid Zehetmair was unanimously elected the new VP district chief. “She is the youngest district party leader of the ÖVP Upper Austria, is well connected and will continue to provide a breath of fresh air,” said Governor Thomas Stelzer.

The 29-year-old replaces Karl Grabmayr, who took over the district party two years ago in a difficult situation. At that time, Prambachkirchner made himself available as district manager and succeeded former Schartner mayor Jürgen Höckner, who has since been convicted of rape.

Rapid rise

Zehetmair came into local politics in a classic way via the Junge ÖVP. In March 2018 she became a councilor in Eferding. Just six months later she was head of the Eferdinger People’s Party as parliamentary group leader. At that time, at 25, she was one of the youngest chairmen in all of Austria and the first woman in the history of the city of Eferding to lead a parliamentary group. In December 2020, Zehetmair was promoted to city councilor and is responsible for the areas of culture, tourism, generations and social affairs in the district town. The young politician has also been a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament since the 2021 election.

“I’m looking forward to the new task and the cooperation in the district,” says Zehetmair. She wants to contribute to the further development of the region.
