“I know what it takes to be fast in Landshaag.” A bold saying, which Andreas Gangl also has justification for. Since 2016, with his Suzuki, he has held the best time in the motorcycle hill climb, which once again rises at the weekend (Saturday, from 12 p.m./Sunday, 8.30 a.m.). The 1:09.940 minutes has since given many a hard time.
“Everything was perfect back then. The asphalt was good, the weather was great and the view in the forest was great thanks to a few trees being felled.” Naturally, Gangl does not want to reveal the ideal line for the 3,620 meter long route uphill. “Only so much. It’s precision work,” says Gangl. He tempted competitor Thomas Berghammer to make a daring maneuver in 2019. “He said he never brakes at Hauseck. I actually put that into practice in the race.” The man from Salzburg promptly came very close to the best time. Local hero Wolfgang Gammer and many others can also be expected to do the same this time.
Start in the “Cathedral”
The weekend’s European opener for the Superbike World Championship takes place on the traditional circuit in Assen in the Netherlands. Max Kofler also starts the season in the “cathedral of motorcycle racing”, as the track is called because of the folk festival atmosphere there. As in the previous year, Attnanger drives a Ducati V2 Panigale in the Supersport class. Only his team is new with D34G Racing.
