The minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fishing (MGAP) participated in the First Ministerial Conference: “Low Emission Agrifood Systems” in Santiago de Chili, there he left some definitions about his environmental perspective of the region. For the minister, each country must assume “differentiated environmental responsibilities” and he highlighted Uruguaythat as an agro-exporting country, is responsible for only 0.03% of global emissions.

Along these lines, accompanied by a Uruguayan delegation, he reported on the environmental policies that the country is carrying out in order to achieve sustainable production systems, among which are the protection of soils and native forestsas well as the promotion of good practices in the different sectors, seeking to reduce the intensity of emissions.


The meeting brought together ministers and ambassadors from more than 20 countries with the objective of creating synergies between government authorities and establishing a dialogue that promotes the mitigation of climate change and the resilience of agricultural production.

Mattos will travel to FAO headquarters in Rome on May 5
In turn, Mattos, who currently chairs the Southern Agricultural Councilparticipated in a meeting with the deputy director general of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Cape Verdean economist and politician Maria Helena Semedo.
