For a few days now, the first defiant cherry trees in the Scharten have been stretching their blossoms towards the rainy April weather. Thanks to the milder temperatures, the orchards could already be transformed into a sea of flowers this weekend, which makes the region one of the most popular destinations in Upper Austria. “So far, the conditions have not been ideal,” says Rainer Silber, Managing Director of the Obst-Hügel-Land Nature Park, “but now we are very confident that the weather for the trees and, above all, the insects that pollinate the flowers, will be better from the weekend fits.”

Last weekend’s cherry blossom hike had to be canceled due to bad weather, but from this weekend the best conditions will prevail for an independent hike or a walk through the fruit hills. Geosphere Austria (formerly ZAMG) is forecasting temperatures of up to 21 degrees for the Wels area today.

The farm shops, snack stations and inns in the Scharten are open and await guests with regional specialties – cider, jams, pastries, sandwiches and much more. “That’s our lot, we depend on the weather. We’re all the happier when things really get going now,” says Hermann Prokesch from the Beissl snack bar.

Must costs from Sunday

In addition, the Schartner companies and the Obst-Hügel-Land nature park have considered numerous program items for the coming days. Hans Gessl, better known as Wetterhans, is creating the literary-musical walk “Da blüahade Kerschbam” together with Jonas Rohrer (clarinet, trumpet) and Marvin Edler (harmonica). Meeting point is at 2 p.m. at the Firlingerhof.

This Sunday, the Steinerhof opens the round of must tasting in the Scharten, in the morning the cherry blossom bike race is held. From next Saturday, April 29th, until Monday, May 1st, the big Schartner Mostkost of the FF and the fruit and gardening association with live music will take place at the Beißl snack bar.

On May 1st, the Firlingerhof offers an insight into the farm’s operations at its “Open Day”, there is also live music and tastings of their own products. The nature park also contributes several program items in the last week of April: yoga in the sea of flowers on Thursday, a herb hike on Friday. On Saturday, young ornithologists can get to know the world of birds in the Scharten, and there is also an e-bike tour from the Kurpark Schallerbach into the Scharten.
