With the new format “Singing with a View”, the Upper Austrian Choral Association hit a nerve last year: singing together in a picturesque location under the guidance of a choir director with a cozy end to one or the other local culinary delicacies is back in vogue. Right at the first appointment on the Hollerberg, around 300 people sang traditional and modern songs with choir director Marina Schacherl. They yodelled and there were no communication problems during the song contest quarrel “Love Shine a Light” by Katrina and The Waves.
“Singing is good for all of us, the community feels better and the more people sing, the better and easier it is,” says Harald Wurmsdobler, President of the Upper Austria Choir Association, summing up the contagious effect of singing together.
Start in Mondsee
This year the cooperation between the choir association and the OÖ Nachrichten is entering the second round. Ten dates have already been fixed, starting on Saturday, May 6th at 3 p.m. with “singing with a view” at the Rauchhaus in Mondsee. Roman Stalla, head of the Mondsee Singers’ Association, will lead the event: “I’m really looking forward to singing together”. Stalla is supported by a small wind group and his choir.
The songs for the ten events were adapted for the second edition of the popular format and printed in the OÖN Edition by Trauner. The booklets are available at the events for five euros. Booklets of songs can also be ordered from Trauner Verlag (www.trauner.at). Also on board this year is the folk song work, which has contributed with two yodelers.
