“The Leopards (…) together with twenty transport vehicles, have embarked in the port of Santander (to the north) and are already heading towards Ukraine, where they will arrive within five to six days,” Robles told reporters.
“There are four other Leopards under repair and when they are repaired they will also be taken to Ukraine,” added the minister, quoted by the AFP news agency.
Madrid had announced the sending of these tanks as part of the aid from European countries to Ukraine to combat the Russian invasion.
Having held out all winter against Russian attacks in the east, Ukrainian forces are preparing a counteroffensive in the spring or summer.
