That’s not how relegated players play! Even if SV Guntamatic Ried at Altach, the direct rival in the fight for relegation in the Bundesliga, did not get more than 1: 1, the kickers went down after the final whistle because they are still at the bottom of the table – this appearance must give the people of the Innviertel courage and conviction for the next few weeks.
The Innviertler left their mark on the game in Vorarlberg and created chance after chance – the draw was more than flattering for the eleventh-placed team from the state. “Everyone on the pitch saw that SV Ried was definitely a class better than Altach. You saw correctly that we have quality”said goal scorer Seifedin Chabbi after the draw in his Vorarlberg homeland.
The 29-year-old gave his team the lead after a corner kick in the 55th minute – and could have shot Ried to victory on his own: “I could have decided the game on my own. What counts are the goals, we have to score them. I am convinced that the goals will come now. We had five, six or seven hundreds and we only managed one goal. I played a big part in that, and I’m incredibly sorry.”
His trainer Maximilian Senft doesn’t blame him: “Seif made an excellent game. He knows himself that he has to create chances, he is an experienced striker. The Seif has it and I have great confidence that the next games will be like that.”
The lack of chances for the Rieder meanwhile runs like a red thread through the season. Twelve of the 19 goals this season were scored from dead balls – only seven goals from the running game. The possibilities would have been there again against Altach – Senft is practicing slogans of perseverance: “I have great faith that this will come back. I’m pretty sure we’ll up the ante next week.”
“Need to reward us more”
Nevertheless, the 33-year-old was more than satisfied with his team’s performance: “The team implemented our plan very well, and that’s paying off. We just need to reward ourselves more for it. A bit of luck was missing when I see the aluminum hits.”
Even Altach striker Atdhe Nuhiu, who was able to equalize for Vorarlberg in the 74th minute, agreed with Senft: “We were the worse team for much of the game. We then happily made it 1-1. We’re lucky to have taken a point. We don’t need to talk about the fact that a point can be worth its weight in gold.”
Ried, on the other hand, can only help with victories in the current situation: Lustenau, the next Ländle team, is visiting the Innviertel on Saturday: Ried celebrated one of the only two home wins of the current season against the Green-Whites – and remained unbeaten in two duels (one win, a draw). That can also give SV Ried courage in addition to the performance in Altach.
