Government denounced a conspiracy of Bolsonaro generals

The government of Brazil denounced this Monday a conspiracy of top generals and military who were part of the former president’s cabinet Jair Bolsonaro with the omission of the security forces to protect the Planalto Palace, the government house, in the massive assault on January 8 perpetrated by Bolsonarista activists to request a coup.

This was stated by the Vice Minister of Justice, Ricardo Cappeli, and the Minister of Social Communication, Paulo Pimenta, commenting on the images released by the Institutional Security Cabinet on Sunday, which captured the inaction of the military in charge of defending the Planalto on January 8.

The assault on the headquarters of powers on January 8 gained a new chapter after the resignation of President Lula da Silva’s Institutional Security Cabinet minister, retired general Marco Gonçalves Dias, last week, after images of the interior of the Planalto Palace on the afternoon of January 8.

Dias, trusted man of Lularesigned from office after appearing in the images apparently without repudiating the vandals who were inside the Palace, but the most serious situation, according to the government, is the inaction and collaboration with the coup plotters that the other members of the GSI hadall inheritance of Bolsonarism.

Coup attempt in Brazil

The coup occurred a week after Lula’s inauguration and the security cabinet – which had control of the intelligence services – had not been replaced.

“The farce is over: released images show that seven of the nine GSi soldiers who were in the Planalto Palace during the invasion on January 8 were Bolsonaro’s custodians and even participated in his motorbike caravans. The parliamentary commission that will be installed in Congress will bring the whole truth about the coup”assured Minister Pimenta.

Cappeli, for his part, was appointed as internal minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet and maintained that his predecessor acted in good faith, not the rest of the military who continued in their posts from Bolsonarismo.

In that sense, Cappelli accused the former head of the Bolsonaro GSI, the retired general Augustus Hellenus, a defender of the military dictatorship, for having left the body in a position to carry out “conspiracies” against Lula.

He also included in a message on social networks the former chief of staff and former Defense Minister, General Walter Braga Nettocandidate for Bolsonaro’s vice in the 2022 elections defeated by Lula.

“I know what I saw and heard in command of the troops on January 8. It is not possible to falsify the facts by creating a historical narrative as the flat-earth extremists try to do. Where are Heleno and Braga Neto? If there is a coup plotter and general, certainly not the honorable general Dias”Cappeli wrote.

Cappeli was the controller of the Brasilia police after the coup attempt because that force liberated the area to allow the coup leaders to advance to the Three Powers square.

The images released by the government show how the soldiers who had to defend the Planalto laughed when they saw the vandals go by and others gave them water.

Soldiers linked to Jair Bolsonaro

According to the newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo, Lula’s opponent, these military were trusted by Bolsonaro and participated in their delegations abroad and their security at electoral events.

The attempted coup on January 8 seeks to be turned into a kind of “self-coup” by Bolsonaro deputies, who demanded the opening of a parliamentary investigation.

From these videos, Lulismo adhered to the opening of a commission to try to block what they call “terraplanismo”: trying to impose the idea that the Bolsonaro supporters who entered the three state powers to destroy them were infiltrators to harm Bolsonaro.

The ex-president Bolsonaro He must testify the day after tomorrow before the Federal Police for his alleged connection with the coup acts, in which 1,390 ultra-rightists have already been arrested, of whom 100 have been prosecuted and sent to the trial phase for an attempted coup d’état.

His former Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, He is being held for planning the attacks.

Torres, in the first week of January, had been appointed Secretary of Security of the government of Brasilia, he beheaded the police leadership and the day the coup attempt traveled to the United States to meet with Bolsonaro.

That is why the Brazilian governor, Ibaneis Rocha, an ally of Bolsonaro who says he was betrayed by Torres, was also removed from office for two months.

After the attempted coup, all the GSI Bolsonarites were dismissed, as well as the leadership of the Army, which had refused to repress the ultra-rightists who had camped on the sidewalk of the headquarters to ignore the election won by Lula.
