Only yesterday, Monday, did a 65-year-old pensioner from the Freistadt district file a complaint. She was cheated out of 200,000.00 (gold bars) by “fake police officers” on the pretext that her assets needed to be protected from an impending burglary.
Which is why the police in Upper Austria are increasingly warning of those groups of perpetrators. The following tips are given:
– Our police do not keep assets for property protection
– Any request for money over the phone is a scam
– Immediately end such telephone calls
– Do not give out private details to strangers over the phone
– Don’t let strangers into your home
– Warn possible victims in their family circle
