“Impressive” is how OÖN organic gardener Karl Ploberger describes the meeting with King Charles and his wife six years ago. “It was at afternoon tea at the British Embassy in Vienna. Duchess Camilla immediately shook my hand and told me that she is a passionate gardener and that her grandmother had the same hobby,” recalls the OÖN columnist.
“Very sympathic”
When he then told Charles that he himself had been a passionate organic gardener for many years, sympathy was immediately established. “There was a lot of agreement between us.” Probably also because Karl Ploberger is a real England fan and has already organized many garden trips to the island. “For me, Great Britain is the most beautiful garden country in the world. There are 3,700 private gardens here alone that open their doors to visitors.”
Always a must: Highgrove, King Charles’ estate, which he was even allowed to film last year. The king attaches great importance to natural design and also grows potatoes, cabbage and carrots, among other things. “What I like about Charles is that he has a clear idea of how we treat the earth. It is not for nothing that he has been committed to environmental and climate protection for decades. Hats off!”
The coronation in the OÖN
Charles (74) will be crowned at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday, May 6th. The interest is great: tens of thousands of onlookers are expected in the city – the first royal fans have already pitched their tents along the procession route. The OÖ Nachrichten reports extensively on the celebrations – both in the newspaper and online at nachrichten.at
