Committed community residents have realized the 2.5 kilometer long “GEH:DENK:WEG”, which is already accessible and will be officially opened on May 13th. In this way, a lot of local history is conveyed while walking. The project emphasizes the importance of the Enns and the Gaflenz for Weyer, is dedicated to golden times of upheaval and departure as well as dark historical chapters in this part of the Ennstal. The fate of the raftsmen is reminded of the fate of the raftsmen on theme boards and with QR codes: none of them could swim so as not to abandon the valuable wood in an emergency.
As is well known, the cruel death marches in the last days of the Nazi regime also led along the Enns. The consequences of a racist ideology are shown, but also the human size of those women who, despite a strict ban, provided the suffering and marching concentration camp prisoners with some food.
The large bridge spanning the valley and the power plant on the Enns, as a source of clean energy, are representative of progress and departure. Anyone who wants to know more about it can immerse themselves in the history and geology of Weyer along the way: You can learn something about the uniqueness of the “Weyr arches”.
The 2.5-kilometre-long path begins at the Katzensteiner Mühle, leads past the Enns bridge and to the Flößerfreithof, back to the Taverne inn and from there via an ascending path with a beautiful view under the large bridge back to the starting point.
The production of flour and semolina can be observed in the Katzensteiner mill from 1820. The mill is in operation until October 31st on weekends and public holidays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The ceremony with blessing on May 13 begins at 11 a.m. at the Kastenreith tavern. Afterwards there are exciting guided tours and good entertainment.
